1. Welcome and Introductions
We were glad to see such a good turnout for the first EITC Alliance meeting, and especially volunteers Jodi and Janis! Packets were handed out with statewide radio spots, Alliance graphic, and 2004 EITC focus group research results.
2. Review of EITC Focus Group Research
Val Long and Suzann Knight reviewed the results of focus group research conducted in May 2004 with 40 EITC eligible people in six separate focus groups around the state. The purpose of the focus group research was to determine the level of knowledge and understanding about EITC, AEITC, where to go for free tax preparation, how they can best be reached, and what types of materials are the most effective to pique their interest. A copy of the focus group results is available from Val.
The Alliance members asked good questions provided excellent input about the research. Much of the research confirmed what Alliance members had experienced in terms of barriers to reaching this audience, level of knowledge, etc. There was a good deal of discussion about how to best reach EITC eligible people, including: employers, mailings, word-of-mouth, door-to-door, VISTA’s, Cable Access (IRS will cover in Manchester), peer support groups, statewide distribution of EITC materials through Governor’s Office (IRS will handle), etc.
3. Statewide Media for EITC 2004-2005
Ed Brodeur, President of The Brodeur Group presented the media campaign for this past year. Two 60 second radio spots were developed and audio taped for use throughout the state. The radio spots were digitized and posted on the WOKQ radio station internet for other radio stations to “grab.” WOKQ and The Brodeur Group then notified other radio stations in the state about the PSA’s. It was a quick, effective and novel approach to getting the word out quickly.
The Alliance members critiqued the two radio spots in order to help us with statewide media for this next year. There were good suggestions both about content and wording of the spots.
4. EITC Alliance Discussion
The Alliance thought we should meet quarterly, and that the next meeting should be scheduled for January 11, 2005. Also discussed who else should be on the committee: government representative – Mayors office, Governor’s office, educational institution (Technical Community Colleges, etc), business owner, banks, etc.
Meeting was adjourned at 3:00 PM.
