How to Volunteer

What It Takes to Be a Volunteer

New volunteers will now need to take one full day of training that will give them a brief orientation on the campaign, tax law and taxwise. Following these lessons, there will be an in-class test and certification. Online training is also available through The IRS. Returning volunteers will now need only a half day class that will include training and certification.

During the tax season, we hope that each volunteer will dedicate 3 or 4 hours per week at a particular tax preparation site. Volunteers can select from different tax preparation sites located throughout New Hampshire.

Volunteers are asked to commit to the following standards of conduct:

• I will treat all taxpayers professionally, with courtesy and respect

• I will safeguard the confidentiality of taxpayer information

• I will apply the tax laws equitably and accurately to the best of my ability

• I will only prepare returns within the scope of my training and experience

• I will exercise reasonable care in the use and protection of equipment and supplies

• I will not solicit business from taxpayers I assist

• I will not accept payment for the services I provide

What benefits do volunteers get?

Volunteers get to be on the front lines of an effort which brings more people out of poverty than any other federal program. Volunteers can help put more than $88 million dollars back into the pockets of low-and moderate-income families and individuals.
